Garnet Valley is an unincorporated community in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The city was named in 2006 by the United States Postal Service to allow its residents to distinguish themselves from the residents of Upper Chichester Township. The community name was derived from the Garnet Valley School District despite the district’s headquarters being located in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. As of the 2016 census, 11,185 people call Garnet Valley home.
History
Because Garnet Valley was not named until 2006, the community itself does not carry much history, but the school district it was named after, the Garnet Valley School District, has been in operation since 1959. It is a public school district and is one of the youngest schools in Pennsylvania, but it is a leading school district academically and athletically. Garnet Valley is currently a member of the Central Athletic League and is considered one of the Delaware Valley’s most talented athletic conferences.
